NHS England stats : Covid-19 deaths by age and existing morbidities

Home Index to all graphs

The data presented here is all from Tab3 "COVID-19 deaths by age group and pre-existing condition" of the NHS England weekly file.

I have added supergroupings of the age groups (Under 40, Under 60, and 60 and over), percentages on all cells to make the meaning of the numbers presented more obvious and columns comparing the latest figures with the overall epidemic numbers and those from the previous sheet. Optionally every weekly sheet available can be viewed but they all tell a pretty consistent story. That story being...

The factors most impacting your chances of death are age and whether or not you have some prior known morbidity. An ONS report indicates that many (indeed 60%) of those pre-existing morbidites are what we would normally refer to as the disabled and/or those with learning difficulties.

Graph of Covid-19 percentage of deaths by age group over prior week

The increase in proportion of under 60s dieing starting in May 2021 puzzles me. It doesn't seem to coincide with any other known event although there was a period of relatively low deaths starting around then. I feel it must in some way be related to the most vulnerable having succombed.
